City Intro
Huizhou is one of Guangdong‘s most famous historical cities and home to such significant historical sites. Huizhou is commonly known as Goose City according to a legend an immortal figure rode into town on a wooden goose searching for an idyllic spot in which to make his home. He was in search of a place brimming with natural beauty and with its lakes, mountains, protected wildlife zones and springs, along with a temperate climate, Huizhou is undoubtedly such a place. With the beautiful West Lake, the Tangquan Hot Spring and the Luofu Mountain it is not surprising that Huizhou has also become a popular destination for tourists from Hong Kong, Macau, and overseas. It also boasts some relics connected to the Northern Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo (1037- 1101). In 1094, this great poet and writer was exiled to Huizhou, where he lived for three years and wrote more than 200 poems which had a big influence upon the development of Huizhou‘s politics, economy and culture. Places worthy of a visit are Huizhou City, Huidong and Boluo counties.
